Fun Stuff for Kids
www.puzzlemaker.com/ is offered through Discovery Channel and seems to be the mother of all puzzle sites. You can create word finds, crosswords, mazes, cryptograms, and a lot more. You can also order a CD-ROM for $20 that includes all the Web stuff, plus clip art, etc.
At www.wordcentral.com/, offered through Merriam-Webster, there is a student dictionary and also a feature where kids can create their own dictionary. There's also a word-of-the-day function. Here kids can look up vocab words, make poems, and write "secret messages" in code.
And www.funbrain.com/words.html has more than a dozen activities: unscrambling words, learning and practicing parts of speech, filling in blanks to write silly stories, practice spelling, etc.
